Leadership is one of the core concepts in the field of business. Only an effective leader is able to navigate his team and, thus, his business through sticky situations towards success. In order to be an effective leader, you will need to master the art of team leadership.

Leading a group of people towards achieving a particular goal can be a rewarding process in itself. However, if you do it effectively, not only will the goal be achieved, but the members of your team will have a good time while doing so.

What is Effective Team Leadership?

There are no set standards to measure the effectiveness of a leader. In fact, it is entirely a subjective matter. This is because, in the business world, different situations require different courses of action. An effective leader is someone who is willing and able to adapt his style of leadership, ways of thinking and modes of communication according to what the situation demands. This is a skill that cannot be achieved overnight but rather has to be continually improved.

Making an effort to get to know your team members is the first step in accomplishing that. Once you know your team members better, you can also assign them tasks that fit their skills and qualifications. Tasks that match your skill sets and abilities are always more enjoyable to do and also help in increasing motivation.

I want to take for example the  healing center known as Seekers Centre in Ottawa, Canada which was established in 2006. The place specializes in the treatment of chronic pain. What started as a small solo practice is now a booming healthcare business, led by Dr. Richard Nahas. He is a skilled entrepreneur leading a growing team of doctors to provide treatment to over 50 patients a day. His team leading skills are perhaps the main reason behind the rapid yet sustained growth of the Seekers Centre.

Another important characteristic of an excellent team leader includes setting examples. In the case of Dr.  Richard Nahas, his experience with medicine and traditional healing practices from all over the world has proven to motivate and inspire his team to always strive for their greatest potential.

Final Thoughts

There is no fixed set of rules or instructions on how to be a good leader. Team leadership is a talent that is directly reflected in the leader’s character and personality. Some people are born great leaders, others grow into it. Whatever it may be, great team leadership is not something that is achieved overnight. It takes time to learn and there is always room for improvement.
